How to Gain Followers on Your Business LinkedIn Account

How do I gain followers on my business LinkedIn account?

Gain LinkedIn Followers on Business Page

With over 2.7 millions business LinkedIn accounts on the platform(1), standing out to gain followers on your business LinkedIn account, so that they see your content lands in their feeds has never been harder. That said, there is a little trick to gain followers fast, and not just any followers— your target audience. The best part? It is completely free.

Why are LinkedIn Followers Important?

For the most part, the number of LinkedIn followers you have does not really matter. This is almost true for every social media platform. It is about the quality of followers that you have.

For example, Company A (Techtron), may have 14,100 engaged LinkedIn followers versus their competitors, Company B (SuperTech), who have 26,700 most unengaged LinkedIn followers. Even with 12,600 less LinkedIn followers, you would rather have Techtron’s following since they always comment and react to posts, which pushes the content to their connection’s LinkedIn feed. So it’s not about how many followers your company LinkedIn Page has, but it is about the quality of people who follow your page.

Great followers are:

  • In your target audience

  • Someone who engages with your content regularly

  • Talks about your content with others

If you can gain as many ‘great’ followers as possible, then you’re in a great position.

What are LinkedIn Invite Credits?

LinkedIn Invitation Credits for a business LinkedIn page
Invite 250 Connections to Follow your Business LinkedIn Page per month

There is a hidden secret in the ‘analytics’ section of company LinkedIn Page with the new updated user interface (UI) that recently released on the LinkedIn web version. They’re called ‘Invite Credits.’ These credits used to be at the forefront of accounts: when you clicked on your company LinkedIn profile, there would be a box in the top right corner offering 250 monthly invite credits to invite your LinkedIn connections to follow the page.

  • 250 Invitations per month

  • You get 1 back every time someone accepts an invite

  • You can only invite first connections

Now, this section is under the impressions chart in the analytics section. You can learn how to navigate to use your invite credits here.

LinkedIn invite credits allow a company page admin to invite their 1st connections to follow the company LinkedIn Page. Each company gets 250 invitation credits that any of the administrators can use to invite their network. We found that it is best to have 2-3 people in your organization split the invitation credits each month to maximize the number of ‘acceptances’ you receive.

Select the necessary filters you want, scroll through the list of all your connections, and check the box on the left most column to select the connections you would like to invite. Once you have selected everyone you would like to invite for that month, press ‘Invite,’ wait 10 seconds, and notifications will officially be sent to the people that you invited.

Slowly, but surely, you will begin to see an increase in followers on your company LinkedIn account.

How Do I get More LinkedIn Invitation Credits for the Month?

Unfortunately, there is no way to get more LinkedIn invitation credits for your account at the moment. The only way to get more than 250 invites per month is to get people to accept your invites.

Every time a connection accepts your LinkedIn following invitation, you get that credit back for the month and can use it again.

So, what’s the strategy? Do not invite just anyone to follow your LinkedIn Page. Be strategic about which of your connections you are inviting and why. Ideally, invite those connections that may have an interest in using your company’s product or service or becoming a key stakeholder of some sort such as an investor. Not only will you begin to get the ‘right’ followers to follow your page and get a higher return on investment for the time or money spent creating LinkedIn content, but you will get your invitation credit back to invite another one of your connections.

What other ways can I increase my Business' LinkedIn Following?

Create Relevant and Valuable LinkedIn content

Most importantly, you want to create content that is relevant to your target audience, so that it begins to show up on non-followers feeds. The more content you put out, especially if it provides value/ helps your target audience, the higher likelihood your posts will find new people’s feeds and they will follow your company page.

Post Jobs on LinkedIn ‘Easy Apply’

LinkedIn 'Easy Apply' Automatically Opts-In applicants to follow the company's LinkedIn Page

Another neat trick is to use the LinkedIn’s ‘Easy Apply’ job feature. If you have a job opening, it is also a perfect time to bring in some new followers. Every time a new applicant applies to a posted job role, a box is automatically checked (based on LinkedIn default settings), that makes the applicant follow your LinkedIn Page. This is a great way to gain a lot of followers, but oftentimes, you’re not getting people in your target audience to follow you. This is exactly why Techtron’s LinkedIn page with 14,100 followers could be better than SuperTech’s LinkedIn page with 26,700 followers.

This method is especially great if you mainly use LinkedIn for hiring and would like your following to consist of people who are interested in working at your firm.

Tag relevant People and Companies on your Posts

Lastly, make sure to tag relevant people and businesses on your posts. When someone is mentioned on a company LinkedIn Post, as long as they react or comment on the photo, that post will be pushed to their network’s feed. If this person is part of your target audience, they likely have connections in similar industries, so those people will now discover you. You will begin to see increased following and engagement on your LinkedIn Posts.
